Stamford Man Pleads Guilty to Robbing 3 Banks in 2020
FRANCESCO PENSIERO, a 51-year-old man from Stamford, Connecticut, has pleaded guilty to bank robbery, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Pensiero, also known as Frank Pensiero, admitted to robbing three banks in 2020, including Chase Bank in Stratford and two People’s United Bank locations in Fairfield and New Canaan.
On October 13, 2020, Pensiero and an associate robbed the Chase Bank at 2855 Main Street in Stratford, making off with approximately $1,000. Later that day, Pensiero robbed the People’s United Bank at 1160 Kings Highway Cutoff in Fairfield, stealing $5,458.
The following week, on October 28, 2020, Pensiero and his associate robbed the People’s United Bank at 95 Main Street in New Canaan. During the robbery, Pensiero displayed a handgun, verbally threatened bank employees, and stole $9,130.
Pensiero was arrested on January 27, 2023, and faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. He has been released on a $100,000 bond. The investigation into the bank robberies was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local police departments in Stratford, Fairfield, and New Canaan.
Pensiero’s associate was charged with and convicted of related state offenses stemming from the robberies. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Daniel E. Cummings and Amanda S. Oakes.
Pensiero’s criminal history includes convictions for bank robbery and other offenses. At sentencing, which has not been scheduled, Pensiero will face the possibility of serving 20 years in prison for his crimes.
