Stanley Church, Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Sub…

Stanley Church, 47, of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, is facing federal charges after being caught with a stash of deadly and illicit drugs intended for distribution. A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh handed down a one-count indictment on February 6, unsealed today, charging Church with possession with intent to distribute multiple controlled substances.

The indictment alleges that on or about March 17, 2017, Church possessed heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine, MDMA, and Psilocyn mushrooms—all with the intent to distribute. The cocktail of narcotics includes fentanyl, a synthetic opioid up to 100 times more potent than morphine and a primary driver in thousands of overdose deaths across Pennsylvania.

Church now faces a maximum penalty of 20 years behind bars and a fine of up to $1,000,000, or both. Federal sentencing guidelines mean the final punishment will hinge on the severity of the offense and any prior criminal record the defendant may hold. No prior convictions were disclosed in the initial filing.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Allegheny County Police Department, highlighting the ongoing crackdown on drug networks operating in and around Pittsburgh. Law enforcement officials have intensified operations in recent years as opioid-related deaths continue to surge in the region.

Assistant United States Attorney Timothy M. Lanni is leading the prosecution, signaling the federal government’s aggressive stance on multi-substance distribution cases. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, led by Scott W. Brady, emphasized that such charges are not taken lightly—especially when fentanyl and heroin are involved.

An indictment is not a conviction. Stanley Church is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. His arraignment and trial dates have not yet been announced. Grimy Times will continue to track this case as more details emerge from the federal docket.
