Santa Fe Man Sentenced to 90 Days for Trespassing on Pueblo Land
Steve Romero, 32, of Santa Fe County, was sentenced to 90 days of imprisonment for trespassing on Nambe Pueblo land in New Mexico.
Romero pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor criminal trespass charge in federal court in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
According to court documents, Romero was banished from entering any land within the Nambe Pueblo boundaries by the Nambe Tribal Council in February 2016.
Despite the ban, Romero re-entered the Pueblo land on four occasions between April and June 2016.
During his guilty plea, Romero admitted to being served with a Tribal Resolution on March 7, 2016, excluding him from the Nambe Pueblo.
Romero’s sentence includes one year of supervised release following his 90-day imprisonment.
The case was investigated by the Northern Pueblos Agency of the BIA’s Office of Justice Services and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Raquel Ruiz-Velez.
