JAMESTOWN, NY – Steven Glover, Sr., 39, is facing a federal rap after a grand jury indicted him on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine. If convicted, Glover could spend up to 15 years behind bars and face a $250,000 fine.
The case, spearheaded by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Violanti, began unfolding on December 14, 2022, when a Jamestown Police officer spotted Glover behind the wheel despite a suspended license. During the traffic stop, Glover readily admitted to carrying a meth pipe. A search of the vehicle turned up a digital scale coated in crystal residue and, more damningly, a pistol. Glover, already with a criminal record, was initially charged in state court and released on bail.
But Glover didn’t stay clean. On February 22nd, Jamestown Police again encountered Glover – this time as a passenger in another vehicle. The officer, aware of Glover’s outstanding charges, observed drug paraphernalia and a plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine. Another arrest followed. The key issue? Glover was convicted of a felony in Chautauqua County Court in 2019, making firearm possession illegal.
Federal authorities have now taken over, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) joining the Jamestown Police Department in the investigation. The case is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, a multi-agency effort aimed at dismantling major criminal organizations.
Glover was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy and is currently being held without bail. The indictment is a formal accusation, and Glover is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The feds are building a solid case, however, and a lengthy prison sentence looks increasingly likely.
The investigation was led by Jamestown Police Chief Timothy Jackson, ATF Special Agent-in-Charge John B. DeVito, and DEA Special Agent-in-Charge Frank A. Tarentino III. This bust highlights the ongoing struggle to keep illegal weapons and narcotics off the streets of Western New York, and the collaborative effort needed to tackle serious crime in the region.
