JAMESTOWN, NY – Steven Glover, Sr., 39, is facing a potential 15-year prison sentence after admitting to possessing a firearm despite a prior felony conviction. The guilty plea, entered before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr., brings a grim chapter to a case originating in a routine traffic stop.
The bust unfolded on the morning of December 14, 2022, when a Jamestown Police officer pulled Glover over for driving with a suspended license. The situation quickly escalated when Glover volunteered he was carrying a glass pipe – which tested positive for methamphetamine residue. A search of Glover’s vehicle then revealed a digital scale coated in crystal residue, and crucially, a loaded pistol.
While initially charged in New York State Court and released on bail, the federal ATF stepped in, highlighting the severity of the crime. Glover’s 2019 felony conviction in Chautauqua County Court explicitly barred him from legally owning a firearm. This isn’t a simple gun charge; it’s a repeat offender flaunting the law and endangering the community.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Violanti is prosecuting the case, emphasizing the federal commitment to disarming convicted felons. The investigation was a coordinated effort, involving the Jamestown Police Department, under Chief Timothy Jackson, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) led by Special Agent-in-Charge Bryan Miller, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) under Special Agent-in-Charge Frank A. Tarentino III.
The case is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, a multi-agency initiative aimed at dismantling major criminal organizations. This isn’t an isolated incident; it’s a piece of a larger puzzle of drug trafficking and violent crime that the feds are aggressively pursuing. OCDETF focuses on the highest-level players, and Glover’s case appears to be connected to a wider network.
Glover’s sentencing is scheduled for August 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. before Judge Sinatra. A $250,000 fine also hangs over his head, in addition to the maximum 15-year prison term. The Grimy Times will be in the courtroom when the sentence is handed down, providing continued coverage of this case and the ongoing fight against illegal firearms.
