Abusive Sexual Contact Lands Spokane Man Behind Bars for 15 Years

A 22-year-old Spokane man has been sentenced to 180 months in prison for his role in a horrific case of abusive sexual contact on the Colville Indian Reservation.

Steven Ray St. Peter, a repeat offender, was handed down the sentence by Senior United States District Court Judge William Fremming Nielsen. According to the court records, St. Peter will be under court supervision for 60 months after serving his time in federal prison.

The charges stem from St. Peter’s abuse of a 9-year-old minor child on June 12, 2012. The family of the victim reported the incident to the Colville Tribal Police, who launched an investigation and apprehended St. Peter in a nearby residence in Omak.

St. Peter was subsequently arrested and charged with abusive sexual contact. He pleaded guilty to the charges on March 19, 2014.

According to Michael Ormsby, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, ‘Sexual abuse will not be tolerated within any of the four Indian Reservations in the Eastern District of Washington. This District’s Federal and Tribal law enforcement partners are ever-vigilant when investigating sexual abuse crimes.’

The investigation was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Colville Tribal Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Matthew F. Duggan, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington.
