Summer Muniz, Mail Theft, Texas 2025

Mail Theft Ring Busted in Corpus Christi

A brazen scheme to steal mail from hundreds of residents in Corpus Christi has been brought to an end with the guilty pleas of two San Antonio residents.

Summer Muniz, [27] years old, and Eusebio Valdez, [29] years old, have admitted to conspiring to steal mail from residents in the Corpus Christi area between August 2025 and December 2025.

According to court documents, Muniz stole a postal lock, while Valdez used counterfeit postal keys to access apartment building mailboxes. The stolen mail was then used to commit identity theft, with Muniz using the information to steal at least $2,500 from a victim’s bank account.

The scheme was uncovered by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, with assistance from the San Antonio Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley A. Pruitt prosecuted the case.

Muniz and Valdez have been in custody pending their sentencing hearings, with Muniz facing a mandatory two years of imprisonment for the identity theft conviction and Valdez facing up to 10 years for possessing the postal keys. Muniz will also pay restitution for damages to the apartment mailboxes and for the amount the victims lost.

The sentencing hearing for Muniz and Valdez has been set for June 3 before U.S. District Judge David Morales.
