Fake Nurse Sentenced to 4-Year Prison Term
LITTLE ROCK, AR — A former school nurse in Arkansas has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for using a stolen social security number and identity to obtain employment as a school nurse.
Susan Elaine Boyce, 60, formerly of Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, was ordered by United States District Judge Brian S. Miller to serve 4 years in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. She was also ordered to pay $175,099.24 in restitution to the Searcy Special School District.
According to court documents, Boyce used an Arkansas State Board of Nursing license number and a Social Security Number belonging to another person to obtain employment as a school nurse in Searcy, Arkansas, from the 2007-08 school year through the 2011-12 school year.
The case was investigated by Special Agent Jeffrey Hannah of the Office of the Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Special Agent Mark McElrath of the Office of the Inspector General of the Social Security Administration. Assistant United States Attorney Alexander Morgan prosecuted the case for the United States.
Boyce was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 5, 2012, on seven counts of wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and misuse of a social security number. She pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud, one count of aggravated identity theft, and one count of misuse of a Social Security Number on February 26, 2014.
The sentencing marks the end of a lengthy investigation and prosecution of Boyce’s crimes. Her conviction serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying the authenticity of identification documents and the consequences of committing identity theft.
