Jamall Harris, a 45-year-old Syracuse man, has admitted to running a massive fentanyl and methamphetamine ring in the city. The notorious dealer pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl with the intent to distribute.
According to the US Department of Justice, Harris was taken into custody after police discovered over one kilogram of methamphetamine and a quantity of fentanyl in his home and car on November 8, 2023. The evidence against Harris was overwhelming, and he had no choice but to fold under the pressure.
Harris’s troubles don’t stop there. The convicted felon had previously been convicted of Conspiracy to Possess Heroin with the intent to distribute. This latest guilty plea is just the latest chapter in his long and storied career as a major player in the city’s underworld.
The investigation into Harris’s activities was led by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) with assistance from the United States Probation Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica N. Carbone will be prosecuting the case, and Harris is set to be sentenced on September 10, 2024.
At sentencing, Harris faces a maximum prison sentence of 30 years, a fine of up to $2,000,000, and a term of supervised release of at least 6 years and up to life. It’s a bleak outlook for the man who once thought he was above the law.
Harris’s guilty plea is a major victory for law enforcement in the fight against the opioid epidemic. It’s a reminder that those who seek to profit from the suffering of others will be brought to justice, no matter how powerful they may seem.
