Defendant Faces Consequences for Narcotics-Related Offenses
A 28-year-old Corpus Christi resident has been handed a harsh sentence for his involvement in narcotics trafficking. Don Neal Devon Cobb pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver cocaine on August 2, marking a significant development in the case.
During a recent hearing, U.S. District Judge David S. Morales ordered Cobb to serve 88 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. At the hearing, Cobb admitted to struggling with a drug problem, highlighting the devastating impact of addiction on individuals and communities.
The case began when law enforcement pulled Cobb over for a traffic violation, which quickly escalated into a high-speed pursuit after he fled the scene. The pursuit ended in a car crash, where authorities discovered a substantial amount of methamphetamine. Further investigation revealed that Cobb was involved in dealing narcotics, leading to the execution of a search warrant at his residence on May 28, 2020.
Inside Cobb’s home, law enforcement uncovered a stash of illicit substances, including cocaine, heroin, illegal mushrooms, marijuana, THC wax, and a loaded firearm. Items associated with drug trafficking were also found, solidifying the evidence against Cobb. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Barbara J. De Peña prosecuted the case, bringing Cobb to justice for his crimes. Cobb has been in custody since his arrest and will remain there pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility. This sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences faced by those involved in narcotics trafficking and the importance of community efforts to combat addiction and crime.
The case against Don Neal Devon Cobb serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of narcotics trafficking and the devastating impact of addiction on individuals and communities. As law enforcement continues to crack down on these offenses, it is essential that we support initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of addiction and providing resources for those struggling with substance abuse.
