Hill City Man Sentenced for Methamphetamine Conspiracy

A South Dakota man has been sentenced to 57 months in custody for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy that spanned over a year and a half. Ian Haverly, 34, of Hill City, South Dakota, was found guilty of conspiring with others to distribute and distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine within the state.

According to court documents, Haverly’s involvement in the conspiracy began in September 2014 and continued until January 2016. During this time, he worked with others to distribute large quantities of methamphetamine, which had a significant impact on the community.

The case against Haverly was investigated by a multi-agency task force, including the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team, United States Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rapid City Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ted L. McBride and Kathryn N. Rich prosecuted the case, which resulted in Haverly’s guilty plea on November 6, 2015. Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court, sentenced Haverly to 57 months in custody, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Haverly was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Dakota announced the sentencing, highlighting the efforts of law enforcement agencies in bringing Haverly to justice.

The case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of methamphetamine on communities and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat the drug trade. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work with local and federal agencies to address the growing threat of methamphetamine in South Dakota.

Haverly’s sentencing brings an end to a lengthy investigation and prosecution. The cooperation and dedication of law enforcement agencies played a critical role in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.
