A 35-year-old Tacoma, Washington man, Reginald Irvin, was sentenced on Friday to 15 years in federal prison for sex trafficking and conspiracy. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan following a guilty plea from Irvin in October 2012.
Irvin’s reign of terror over the women he coerced into prostitution was detailed during the sentencing hearing. Records show he enforced a strict regimen, demanding all earnings from their exploitation and restricting their movements. The violence Irvin employed included beatings, sexual assault, psychological abuse, and forcing his victims to perform degrading acts.
Prosecutors argued that Irvin’s history of assault and exploitation made him a threat to society, writing in their sentencing memo, ‘Unquestionably Irvin is a predator who has a long history of assaulting and exploiting young women… His history and characteristics demonstrate an individual who is a menace and danger to society.’
The investigation into Irvin was conducted by the Tacoma Police Department, Lakewood Police Department, and the FBI’s Innocence Lost Task Force. The task force specializes in combating child sex exploitation and enhancing law enforcement capabilities through training and investigative support.
Assistant United States Attorneys Ye-Ting Woo and Bruce Miyake prosecuted the case, ensuring justice for the victims of Irvin’s exploitation.
Irvin was also ordered to register as a sex offender, a permanent mark on his record that signifies his violent and predatory nature towards women.
