Tae’rón Womack, Making a False Declaration, Connecticut 2023

Bridgeport Man Admits Lying to Grand Jury, Faces Up to Five Years in Prison

Tae’rón Womack, 22, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, pleaded guilty to making a false declaration before a federal grand jury on September 19, 2023, before U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley in Bridgeport. Womack, who was released on a $25,000 bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Womack appeared before a grand jury in New Haven on July 20, 2020, to testify about his involvement in the shooting and killing of Myreke Kenion on January 26, 2020. During his testimony, Womack denied knowing Jaheim Warren, who was suspected of being involved in the shooting. However, investigators later discovered a YouTube rap video in which Warren and Womack appeared together.

The investigation into Womack’s involvement in the shooting and his subsequent lying to the grand jury was conducted by the FBI’s Safe Streets and Violent Crimes Task Forces, ATF, DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, Bridgeport Police Department, Connecticut State Police, and the Bridgeport State’s Attorney’s Office, with the assistance of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory, and the Waterbury Police Department.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rahul Kale and Jocelyn C. Kaoutzanis as part of the Justice’s Department’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), Project Longevity, and Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) programs. PSN is an evidence-based program aimed at reducing violent crime, while Project Longevity focuses on reducing gun violence in Connecticut’s major cities. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations.

Womack’s sentencing is scheduled for December 12. The Bridgeport Police Department, FBI, ATF, DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, and other law enforcement agencies continue to work together to combat violent crime and gang activity in the city and state.
