A Monongalia County woman has been sentenced to prison for a firearms charge, announced United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld.
Tara Morgan, 50, of Morgantown, West Virginia, received a 36-month sentence for making false statements to purchase a firearm from a licensed dealer in May 2020 in Monongalia County.
Morgan pleaded guilty in August 2022 to one count of False Statement in Connection with the Acquisition of Firearms. She admitted to working with another individual to make false statements to purchase a firearm.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda E. Wesley prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation.
Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case.
Morgan’s sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime, as making false statements to purchase a firearm is a serious offense that can have severe consequences.
