Taurean Rahsaan Davis, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, North Carolina 2014

RALEIGH – In a daring move to take down repeat offenders, a federal court has handed down a sentence that will make Dunn residents feel safer. 27-year-old Taurean Rahsaan Davis was sentenced to 77 months imprisonment, followed by 3 years of supervised release.

The charges against Davis stem from a traffic stop conducted by an officer with the Dunn Police on February 27, 2014. The officer approached the passenger side of the vehicle and observed a box of bullets under Davis’ leg. The officer recognized Davis as a felon.

Davis indicated that there was a jar of marijuana under the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The officer seized a jar containing 36 baggies of marijuana (29.99 grams of marijuana) and a .22 caliber pistol loaded with 6 rounds of ammunition adjacent to the marijuana from under the driver’s seat, as well as a box of ammunition and a digital scale.

This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime. Targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.

The investigation of this case was conducted by the Dunn Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette prosecuted the case for the government.

Taurean Rahsaan Davis, a 27-year-old resident of Dunn, was charged with being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition. On June 10, 2014, an indictment was filed against Davis. He later pled guilty to the charge on November 3, 2014.
