A Kansas businessman is accused of cooking the books to avoid paying a cool $1 million in taxes. Kenneth Madl, 64, of Joplin, Missouri, allegedly submitted underreported tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service for his company, Madl Construction, based in Pittsburg, Kansas.

According to court documents, Madl submitted tax returns for the years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 that underreported the company’s gross income by a total of more than $1 million. The IRS Criminal Investigation is taking a closer look at the case.
