A string of brazen armed robberies has finally come to an end with the guilty plea of Taylor Ross Wardell, a 29-year-old Cheyenne resident, in U.S. District Court today.
Wardell pleaded guilty to four counts of interfering with commerce by robbery, a federal crime that carries severe penalties. The charges stem from a series of armed robberies that occurred in Cheyenne and Laramie between August 14, 2019, and September 27, 2019.
The first robbery took place on August 14, 2019, at Silver Mine Subs, a sandwich shop in Cheyenne. The second robbery occurred just the next day, August 15, 2019, at the Loaf N Jug in Cheyenne. The third robbery happened on August 26, 2019, at the Loaf N Jug in Laramie, and the fourth robbery occurred on September 9, 2019, at Vino’s Wine and Spirits in Cheyenne.
Wardell was arrested by the Cheyenne Police Department on October 1, 2019, bringing an end to the string of robberies.
Wardell is scheduled to be sentenced on January 6, 2020, in U.S. District Court. Judge Alan B. Johnson presided over the change of plea proceedings, and Assistant United States Attorney Timothy J. Forwood represented the government.
The charges against Wardell carry significant penalties, including up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000.
