Orlando, Florida – The grim headlines have rolled in from Lake County as Andres Fernando Cabezas, 33, a teacher at Carver Middle School in Leesburg, has been charged with attempting to entice a minor into sexual activity.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida announced the charges against Cabezas, who now faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 10 years to life in federal prison if convicted. The alleged offense took place between May 25 and May 30, 2017, when Cabezas communicated with a child he believed to be 12 years old via email and text messaging, all in an effort to lure the girl into illegal acts.
On May 30, 2017, as fate would have it, Cabezas’ plans were thwarted when FBI agents arrested him at a restaurant in Lake Mary. During questioning, Cabezas confessed his intent to have sexual contact with the child and provide her with an emergency contraceptive pill that investigators discovered in his vehicle. His dark web escapades also came to light as he admitted to viewing videos of toddlers engaged in sexual acts with adults.
According to the criminal complaint, Cabezas is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case has been diligently investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ilianys Rivera Miranda.
