Texas Bank Robbery Rocks Community
A chilling crime has shaken a small Texas town. On March 6, 2019, Aaron Gonzalez, an 18-year-old LaPorte man, allegedly stormed into the Texas First Bank on FM 834 in Hull, Texas, wielding a threatening note.
The 18-year-old’s brazen move was captured on video surveillance, and eyewitness accounts of the bank robber and his vehicle led investigators to his doorstep. Gonzalez was subsequently taken into custody.
The victim, a bank teller, was left shaken by the encounter. ‘I’m just glad no one was hurt,’ the teller said in a statement.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the LaPorte Police Department, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert L. Rawls is leading the prosecution.
Gonzalez faces up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted. The charges against him include bank robbery by force or intimidation.
An indictment returned by a federal grand jury on April 3, 2019, charged Gonzalez with the crime. It’s essential to note that an indictment is not evidence of guilt and that all persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
As the community struggles to come to terms with the crime, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community safety and the need for vigilant law enforcement.
