Temple Hills Felon Gets 11 Years for Pharmacy Robbery

Greenbelt, Maryland – A Temple Hills man has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for robbing a pharmacy, discharging a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Tyrek Montez Arrington, 24, was convicted of the crimes by a federal jury on April 7, 2021, after two hours of deliberation. U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang handed down the sentence, followed by five years of supervised release.

The crime occurred on October 15, 2019, when Arrington entered a drug store in Clinton, Maryland, wearing a surgical mask and black latex gloves. Armed with a handgun, he walked to the pharmacy area and entered the pharmacist booth, pointing the gun at the pharmacist and demanding oxycodone from a safe.

Arrington then fired one round into the ceiling before taking the cash drawer from the register. Witnesses testified that he attempted to flee with the cash drawer, but was apprehended by two law enforcement officers who encountered him in the store. One officer saw Arrington with the cash drawer in his hand and ordered him to the ground. Arrington dropped the cash drawer and the handgun and tried to evade the first officer, but ran into the second officer and was arrested.

Law enforcement collected a live round and a spent shell casing from behind the counter, as well as the loaded .22-caliber handgun that Arrington dropped. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer through community-based partnerships and law enforcement efforts.

Acting United States Attorney Jonathan F. Lenzner commended the FBI and the Prince George’s County Police Department for their work in the investigation, thanking Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dwight Draughon and William D. Moomau for prosecuting the case.
