A brazen marijuana dealer has been brought to justice, but the streets of Topeka are still not safe.
On September 19, 2011, law enforcement officers were on the hunt for Terrance Anthony Dean, Jr., a 23-year-old Topeka resident, to serve an arrest warrant. But what they found was a much bigger problem.
As officers closed in, they witnessed Dean attempting to sell marijuana. A foot chase ensued, and Dean was eventually apprehended. In his vehicle, police discovered a substantial amount of marijuana and a 12-gauge shotgun.
The problem was that Dean was already prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior felony charge in Douglas County District Court for attempted robbery.
U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom commended the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Hendershot for their tireless efforts in bringing Dean to justice.
On September 19, 2011, Terrance Anthony Dean, Jr. pleaded guilty to one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after being charged with a felony.
The sentence: 30 months in federal prison, to be served consecutively with the sentence he is currently serving in the attempted robbery case.
The people of Topeka can rest a little easier knowing that this menace is now behind bars.
