Hot Springs, Arkansas – A Hot Springs couple’s life of crime has finally caught up with them, as they were sentenced to 28 years combined in federal prison for their roles in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.
On April 20, 2021, Steven Mark Zuber, 57, was sentenced to 216 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release on one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine and one count of Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime. His partner in crime, Tammy Ronette Lent, 54, was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release on one count of Distribution of Methamphetamine.
The sentences were handed down by the Honorable Chief Judge Susan O. Hickey in the United States District Court in Hot Springs.
The investigation into Zuber’s methamphetamine trafficking operation began in August 2018, when investigators with the 18 Judicial Drug Task Force and agents with Homeland Security Investigations Little Rock launched an investigation into his activities in the Western District of Arkansas.
Over the course of the investigation, investigators and agents were able to conduct several controlled purchases of methamphetamine from Zuber and Lent. During the arrest of Zuber and Lent, a search of their residence was conducted by investigators and agents, resulting in the seizure of three firearms, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and $14,161.00 in cash.
Zuber and Lent were indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2018 and entered guilty pleas in November 2020.
This case was investigated by the 18 Judicial Drug Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations Little Rock, with Assistant United States Attorney David Harris prosecuting the case for the Western District of Arkansas.
The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone. The program brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to develop effective, locally-based strategies to reduce violent crime.
Zuber and Lent’s sentences are a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement in the Western District of Arkansas. Their crimes not only put the public at risk, but also perpetuated a cycle of violence and addiction in their community.
The sentences of Steven Mark Zuber and Tammy Ronette Lent serve as a warning to those involved in similar activities: the consequences of methamphetamine trafficking and firearms possession are severe and long-lasting.
