ORLANDO, FL – Terrell Robinson, 37, is heading to federal prison for fifteen years after a high-speed chase and subsequent bust revealed a cache of drugs and a firearm. The nineteen-time convicted felon was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Paul G. Byron, marking the latest chapter in a long history of criminal activity.
The bust went down after law enforcement observed Robinson engaging in a hand-to-hand drug transaction at a local gas station. When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Robinson floored it, leading them on a chase onto Route 408. He was eventually cornered at another gas station where officers took him into custody. The search of his vehicle yielded more than just a ride – a firearm, ammunition, drug distribution materials, baggies, scales, and a cocktail of controlled substances including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine.
Robinson’s extensive criminal record played a significant role in the sentencing. Court documents reveal a history of violent and drug-related offenses dating back to 2008, including convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and multiple counts of cocaine delivery. This record qualified him as both an Armed Career Criminal and a Career Offender under federal sentencing guidelines, leading to the substantial fifteen-year sentence.
Federal prosecutors secured the forfeiture of the firearm, ammunition, and cash seized during the arrest, all deemed proceeds of Robinson’s illegal activities. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dana E. Hill led the prosecution, building a case on evidence gathered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with support from the Orlando Police Department.
This case is being touted as a win for Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by fostering collaboration between law enforcement and communities. The DOJ launched a strengthened version of PSN in 2021, focusing on community trust, preventative measures, strategic enforcement, and measurable results.
