Terrence Coleman, Possession of Firearm by Unlawful User, Connecticut 2021

A New Haven man has been held accountable for his crimes after pleading guilty to a federal firearm offense, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.

Terrence Coleman, 20, of New Haven, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by an individual who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

According to court documents and statements made in court, in September 2020, Coleman, an habitual user of marijuana, possessed a Beretta .22 caliber pistol, which he subsequently traded to another individual in exchange for marijuana.

Coleman, who was arrested on April 16, 2021, faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years. He is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall on November 29, 2021.

Coleman is currently released on a $10,000 bond pending sentencing. This matter has been investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Natasha M. Freismuth and Konstantin Lantsman.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Natasha M. Freismuth and Konstantin Lantsman, are working to ensure that those who break the law are held accountable.
