Terrioyes Owney and McCoy Walker, Life Sentences, Murder, Louisiana 2017

Two members of the notorious 39ers gang have been sentenced to life in prison for their roles in a string of violent crimes in Louisiana.

Terrioyes Owney, 30, and McCoy Walker, 26, were convicted of gang-related offenses in February 2017 following a six-week trial.

In a courtroom in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S. Judge Jay C. Zainey handed down the life sentences to Owney and Walker. The sentences were handed down on an unspecified date.

Owney and Walker were convicted of various crimes, including conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organization Act (RICO), conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, conspiracy to use and carry and to possess firearms, and murder in aid of racketeering.

The defendants received the following sentences:

• TERRIOYES OWNEY, age 30: Life imprisonment for each count of Conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organization Act (RICO), Life imprisonment for each count of Conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, 240 months imprisonment for each count of Conspiracy to use and carry and to possess firearms, Mandatory life sentence for each count of Murder in aid of racketeering, Life imprisonment for each count of Causing death through the use of a firearm, 240 months imprisonment for each count of Assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering, 120 months imprisonment for each count of Use and carrying of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and a drug trafficking crime, Mandatory life sentence for each count of Murder in aid of racketeering, Life imprisonment for each count of Causing death through the use of a firearm, Mandatory life sentence for each count of Murder in aid of racketeering, and Life imprisonment for each count of Causing death through the use of a firearm.
• MCCOY WALKER, age 26: Life imprisonment for each count of Conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organization Act (RICO), Life imprisonment for each count of Conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, 240 months imprisonment for each count of Conspiracy to use and carry and to possess firearms, Mandatory life sentence for each count of Murder in aid of racketeering, and Life imprisonment for each count of Causing death through the use of a firearm.

The sentencing was praised by Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans, who credited the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation New Orleans Gang Task Force, the New Orleans Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in investigating the case.
