Ashland Man Sentenced for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury
BILLINGS — In a disturbing case of elder abuse, Terry Lynn Braine, 56, was sentenced to time served of approximately 30 months, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for assaulting an elderly man on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation.
The violent incident occurred on April 7, 2019, in an Ashland residence, where Braine hit the elderly victim, who was in his 80s, numerous times, causing him to fall to the ground. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Braine pleaded guilty in July 2021 to assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a federal crime that carries severe penalties.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan T. Dake prosecuted the case.
Terry Lynn Braine, the defendant, must adhere to a supervised release program for the next three years, following his 30-month time served sentence.
The Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation, where the assault took place, is a federally recognized tribe in Montana.
