EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – Daniel Robert, 48, also known as Dewayne Robert, has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of leading an operation that transported over 325 kilograms of cocaine to Southern Illinois.
Robert, a Texas resident, faced a jury conviction on multiple counts including conspiracy to distribute cocaine, money laundering, obstructing justice, witness tampering, and attempted witness tampering. His reign as the cocaine kingpin ended with a sentence that reflects the severity of his crimes.
“Large-scale drug traffickers who profit from poisoning our communities with dangerous narcotics and then try to obstruct justice will be held fully accountable,” said U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft.
Court documents revealed that Robert employed several couriers for drug delivery and proceeds collection. After his arrest, he attempted to influence a witness improperly, further indicating his intent to obstruct justice.
The DEA estimates the operation moved at least $1 million worth of cocaine from January 2014 to August 2018. Special Agent in Charge Michael Davis emphasized the DEA’s commitment to removing such criminals from communities.
Co-defendants included Jeffrey Taylor, 42, Daniel Matthew, 50, Stephanie Reynolds, 47, Simbiat Soetan, 36, Lloyd Parker, 36, Michael Martin, 51, Shataya Moore, 27, and Shermiya Reynolds-Ray, 30, who all pleaded guilty to various drug-related charges.
