Texas Man Charged With Mailing Threatening Communications

A Texas man, Carlos Kidd, 33, has been charged with mailing threatening communications to a federal judge in North Dakota.

The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury in the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota on November 6, 2012, alleges Kidd mailed threatening letters to a federal judge in North Dakota.

Kidd, who appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen Klein in Bismarck, North Dakota on January 24, 2013, has pleaded not guilty to the indictment.

The maximum penalty for Kidd upon conviction is 10 years’ imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.

The investigation into Kidd’s alleged crimes is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman is leading the prosecution of the case.

Kidd has been remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending his trial, which has yet to be scheduled.

The charge against Kidd is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
