Texas Man Sentenced for Threatening Ex-Girlfriend

Bangor, Maine – In a shocking case of domestic violence, Shea Ryan Estes, a 41-year-old man from McKinney, Texas, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for making interstate threats to his ex-girlfriend, who was living in Maine at the time.

According to court records, Estes made two threatening telephone calls to his ex-girlfriend in the summer of 2017, while he was still living in Texas. The calls were recorded on her answering machine, and in them, Estes threatened to ‘hunt’ her down, stating that she was ‘next’ and would ‘suffer’ if he ever got back to Maine. He also threatened to kill her current boyfriend, various members of her family, and ‘anyone that gets in my [expletive] way.’

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, who worked together to bring Estes to justice. The U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank announced the sentencing, stating that Estes would also face three years of supervised release, including up to three months of community confinement.

Estes pleaded guilty to the charges on April 5, 2018, and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge John A. Woodcock Jr. The punishment is seen as a warning to others who may think they can use threats and violence to control their loved ones.

The disturbing nature of the threats made by Estes has left many in the community shaken. ‘This case is a stark reminder of the devastating impact that domestic violence can have on victims and their families,’ said a spokesperson for the FBI. ‘We are committed to doing everything in our power to prevent these crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.’

Estes’ sentence is a significant step towards justice for his victim, who can now begin to heal and move on from the trauma caused by Estes’ actions.

The FBI and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office are to be commended for their tireless efforts in investigating and prosecuting this case. Their dedication to keeping our communities safe is truly commendable.
