TX Tax Cheat Racks Up $101M Tab
A Dallas federal court has slammed the brakes on Arthur Piner Grider, III, and his Florida-based corporations, Asgard Avionics Corp., from violating the Internal Revenue Code. The court’s order, issued Tuesday, bars Grider and 14 other corporate defendants from pyramiding employment taxes, a scheme that has left the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with a whopping $101M tab.
According to court papers, the defendants owe a cumulative $100M in unpaid payroll and unemployment taxes. Under the preliminary injunction, Grider and his corporate cohorts must timely deposit employment taxes, file federal tax forms, and pay their federal tax liabilities.
The court’s order also prohibits the defendants from paying other creditors or themselves before settling their current federal employment tax liabilities. Additionally, they must provide tax deposit information to an IRS revenue officer and notify the IRS in writing if they begin operating any new business.
The government’s complaint alleges that Grider and his entities have a long history of pyramiding employment taxes, racking up $76M in unpaid employment taxes for his corporate entities and $25M for Grider himself. The non-compliance, the complaint alleges, continued through the first quarter of 2010.
The preliminary injunction is effective immediately, leaving Grider and his corporations with a stark choice: comply with the tax laws or face the consequences. The IRS will be keeping a close eye on these defendants, ensuring that they follow the law and pay their fair share.
As the Grimy Times continues to investigate, it appears that Grider and his corporations have left a trail of unpaid taxes in their wake. The full extent of their tax evasion scheme remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the IRS will not tolerate such blatant disregard for the law.
