Thomas Keithlun Brown, 26, Sentenced to 70 Months in Federal Prison for Firearm Possession
A Dallas man with a history of domestic violence has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm, announced Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Nancy E. Larson.
Thomas Keithlun Brown, 26, had pled guilty to the federal offense of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in September 2024. He was sentenced on June 18, 2025, to 70 months in federal prison by United States District Judge Ed Kinkeade.
Prosecutors had argued for a 70-month sentence due to Brown’s extensive history of assaulting women and prior domestic violence convictions. This case is part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas’s Domestic Violence Initiative, which aims to keep firearms out of the hands of domestic abusers.
The initiative uses federal prosecution to target domestic abusers and keep them from obtaining firearms. History has shown that gun violence and domestic violence are intertwined, with offenders who have a history of domestic violence posing a remarkably high risk of homicide.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Denton Police Department conducted the investigation, while Assistant United States Attorneys John Boyle and Luis Suarez prosecuted the case. Brown’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating federal firearms laws, particularly for those with a history of domestic violence.
As the U.S. Attorney’s Office continues to prioritize domestic violence cases, this sentence highlights the importance of keeping firearms out of the hands of those who pose a risk to public safety.
