Prison Escape Plot Foiled: Three Indicted in Texas
BEAUMONT, Texas – In a shocking turn of events, three individuals, including two federal inmates, have been indicted in connection with a brazen prison escape from the Federal Correctional Complex in the Eastern District of Texas.
The indictment, unsealed on May 4, 2016, charges Todd Allen Hammer, 40, Jason Wesley Tate, 44, and Lorna Leslie, 55, with escaping from federal custody and conspiracy to escape from federal custody.
According to the indictment, Hammer and Tate, both serving time for drug trafficking and firearms violations, allegedly escaped from the Federal Prison Camp on April 9, 2016, with the assistance of Leslie, Hammer’s girlfriend.
The trio was captured by the U.S. Marshals Service in Dallas, Texas, on April 15, 2016, after a six-day manhunt.
If convicted, each of the defendants faces up to five years in federal prison. The sentencing will be determined by the court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the U.S. Marshals Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney John A. Craft prosecuting the case.
It’s worth noting that an indictment is not evidence of guilt, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
