Three Kenosha Area Men Plead Guilty to Tax Fraud

Three men from the Kenosha area have pleaded guilty to a plot to commit tax fraud, underpaying the federal government by a whopping $321,192.

Richard Pignotti (age 63), Richard Milkie (age 62), and Jeffrey Milkie (age 56), each of Kenosha, Wisconsin, admitted to conspiring to under-report income derived from their business in order to pay less federal tax. The trio jointly operated a roofing business, but instead of depositing all payments for completed jobs into their business bank account, they agreed to not do so.

The defendants further agreed to not report all of their business’s earnings to the accountant who prepared their business and personal tax returns. These actions caused the defendants and their business to pay fewer federal taxes in 2015, 2016, and 2017 than they actually owed by virtue of their business’s actual earnings revenue.

According to court filings, the conspiracy was uncovered by the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations Division. Assistant United States Attorney Stephen A. Ingraham has been assigned to prosecute the case.

The defendants each face a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, or both. They are scheduled to be sentenced by Chief United States District Judge Pamela Pepper on separate dates in September and October of 2022.

The guilty pleas were entered on separate dates in May 2022. The plot to commit tax fraud was revealed when an information was filed on March 29, 2022. The case is a stark reminder of the importance of honesty and accuracy in financial dealings.
