Three Harvey Men Get Prized RICO Conviction, Feds Crack Case

Three men from Harvey, Louisiana have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms for their roles in a wide-ranging racketeering and organized crime case, federal investigators announced Friday.

Melvin Hudson, 26, Moses Lawson, 27, and Tedrick Reynard, 24, pleaded guilty to various charges stemming from their involvement with the Murder Squad, a notorious gang operating in the region.

Hudson was sentenced to 25 years in prison and 10 years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty to 8 counts, including conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute over 280 grams of cocaine base, and obstruction of justice.

Lawson was also sentenced to 25 years in prison and 10 years of supervised release. He was ordered to pay $8,000 in restitution to the victim’s family and pleaded guilty to 4 counts, including conspiracy to violate RICO, conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute over 280 grams of cocaine base, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Reynard received a 20-year prison sentence and 10 years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty to 4 counts, including conspiracy to violate RICO, conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute over 280 grams of cocaine base, and possession with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine base.

The investigation, which was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, targeted an area known for its high levels of organized crime activity.

The Murder Squad’s activities spanned several years and involved a range of crimes, including murder, robbery, and narcotics trafficking. The investigation uncovered evidence of the gang’s involvement in the murder of Reginald Francois on April 1, 2010.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of organized crime and the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat it.
