Local Woman Admits to Distributing Heroin in Monroe and Wayne Counties
In a shocking turn of events, a 21-year-old Tobyhanna Township woman has pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine in Monroe and Wayne Counties between 2011 and 2014. Tiffanyann Cruz, who will be sentenced at a later date, admitted to distributing heroin on two occasions in November 2013, in drug transactions arranged by other members of her family.
Cruz’s family members, including Brandon Cruz, Rubie Cruz, and Carlos Cruz, are also charged in the case and are awaiting trial. The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office. According to United States Attorney Peter Smith, Cruz’s guilty plea is a significant blow to the organized crime operation.
The case against Cruz began in August 2014, when she was indicted by a federal grand jury. Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa is prosecuting the case. Cruz faces a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment, a term of supervised release, and a $1 million fine.
