A former Milwaukee clinic co-owner has been sentenced to a year and one day in federal prison for her role in distributing Oxycodone, according to the US Attorney’s office.
Susan Moyer (58), of Milwaukee, was sentenced on March 18, 2021 for her part in operating a ‘pill mill’ that issued baseless prescriptions for high doses of Oxycodone in exchange for cash.
Moyer and her codefendant, Steven Kotsonis, M.D., ran the Compassionate Care Clinic, where Moyer would write out prescriptions, which Kotsonis would sign without seeing the patient or conducting an examination.
The investigation found that at least two patients of the clinic overdosed on Oxycodone and died.
Moyer and Kotsonis each pled guilty to felony offenses, with Kotsonis being sentenced to a year and a day in prison in July 2020.
The case was investigated by the DEA and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Laura S. Kwaterski.
Acting United States Attorney Richard G. Frohling stated, ‘The Department of Justice is committed to using all available tools to stop those involved in fueling the opioid crisis.’
The DEA is also committed to holding those accountable for their actions in the opioid crisis, with DEA Wisconsin Assistant Special Agent in Charge John McGarry stating, ‘This investigation is an example of our resolve to hold those individuals accountable for their actions.’
