Philadelphia Man Bribed by Amtrak Vendor
In a shocking case of corruption, Timothy Miller, 36, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has been charged with accepting bribes worth over $20,000 in exchange for awarding a $7.6 million contract to a small manufacturing firm.
According to the charges, Miller, who worked as the Lead Contract Administrator for Amtrak’s Procurement & Logistics Department, used his position to award contracts to the firm in exchange for lavish gifts and trips to Rehoboth Beach.
U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain slammed Miller’s actions, saying, ‘The defendant in the case was responsible for millions of dollars in contracts in what was supposed to be a fair bidding process. As the filing alleges, he simply sold out his position.’
The case was investigated by the Amtrak Office of Inspector General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General, and the Internal Revenue Service.
Miller faces a maximum possible sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and three years’ supervised release if convicted.
An Indictment, Information, or Criminal Complaint is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The Amtrak Office of Inspector General praised the joint efforts of the investigators, saying, ‘We’re very proud of our joint efforts with the cross-agency team of investigators who helped bring this case to light.’
