A Rapid City man has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender, the Grimy Times has learned.
U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons announced that Timothy Red Elk, age 38, was sentenced to 14 months in federal prison, 5 years of Supervised Release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
Red Elk was convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on September 5, 2018.
The conviction stems from Red Elk knowingly failing to register and update his registration between March 14, 2018 and March 22, 2018.
Red Elk was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 15, 2018, and pled guilty on June 27, 2018.
The case was investigated by the United States Marshal Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller prosecuting the case.
Red Elk was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing.
