On April 25, 2024, Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. handed down the sentence to Timothy Sousa, who was found guilty of transporting child pornography. Sousa will serve 120 months in prison, with no possibility of parole. Following his release, he will begin a 5-year term of supervised release.

Sousa was also ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution to the victims depicted in the images he possessed. This case serves as a stark reminder of the severity of crimes involving child exploitation and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.

The investigation into Sousa’s activities began on September 6, 2022, when Google reported that he had uploaded 161 images of children engaging in sexually explicit conduct to his Gmail account. The Nebraska State Patrol was subsequently notified and launched an investigation.

On February 7, 2023, the Nebraska State Patrol executed a search warrant at Sousa’s residence in Omaha, Nebraska. During the search, Sousa agreed to speak with law enforcement and stated that he would view young girls in bikinis with ‘maybe a nipple slip or something.’ Numerous devices belonging to Sousa were seized during the search, including hard drives, a computer, and a flash drive. A search warrant was also conducted for Sousa’s Google account, which revealed a staggering 5,222 images and videos of child pornography.

The Nebraska State Patrol is credited with conducting the thorough investigation that led to Sousa’s arrest and subsequent sentencing. This case highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and technology companies in combating crimes involving child exploitation.
