Todd J. Kniseley, Failing to Register as Sex Offender, Ohio 2015

Youngstown man Todd J. Kniseley, 27, is facing serious charges for allegedly failing to register and update a registration as a sex offender as required by law. According to U.S. Attorney Carole S. Rendon, Kniseley was charged with one count of failing to register and update a registration pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

The indictment alleges that between at least October 22, 2015, and October 5, 2016, Kniseley traveled in interstate commerce and knowingly failed to register and update a registration as a sex offender. If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violations.

U.S. Attorney Rendon emphasized that an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jason M. Katz following an investigation by the United States Marshal Service.

Kniseley’s alleged failure to register as a sex offender raises serious concerns about public safety and the importance of complying with sex offender registration laws. The community deserves to know when individuals who have committed sex crimes are living in their neighborhoods.

An indictment like this one is a reminder that law enforcement and prosecutors take these types of crimes very seriously and will pursue charges against individuals who fail to comply with the law.
