A Tuba City woman has been sentenced to 72 months in prison for her role in a fatal stabbing on the Navajo Nation Indian Reservation.
Tomacita Nez, 41, pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter after stabbing the victim during a domestic disagreement outside her home.
The victim, who was also a member of the Navajo Nation, died as a result of his injuries.
U.S. District Judge Diane J. Humetewa denied the defense attorney’s request for a lower sentence, describing the offense as ‘incredibly violent’ and finding Nez to be a danger to the community.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Nez will serve 72 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
The case number is CR-18-08314-PCT-DJH, and the release number is 2018-126_Nez.
