Tennessee Man Sentenced to 16 Years for Gun Crime
MEMPHIS, TN – In a recent sentencing, Tommie Conner, 49, of Memphis, was handed a 200-month federal prison sentence for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
On March 4, 2021, Conner was pulled over by the Memphis Police Department after being observed speeding on American Way in his Dodge Durango. Conner fled the scene, but was later apprehended by officers. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded SCCY 9mm pistol in plain view.
Conner’s history of violence and firearm possession led to his indictment in September 2021 for being a felon in possession of a firearm. A jury found him guilty in June 2024. The court also determined that Conner qualified as an armed career criminal under the Armed Career Criminal Act (ACCA).
Conner’s prior convictions include two counts of robbery and three counts of aggravated robbery in state court in 1993, and a federal conviction in 2005 for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to 10 years in state prison and 15 years in federal prison, respectively.
On December 19, 2024, Senior Judge John T. Fowlkes sentenced Conner to 200 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. The federal prison sentence is a harsh blow to Conner, who will spend nearly 17 years behind bars for his crime.
The case was investigated by the Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) Gun Task Force, the Memphis Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Acting U.S. Attorney Reagan Fondren praised the efforts of Assistant United States Attorneys Greg Wagner and Jermal Blanchard, who prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
Conner’s sentence is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies to reduce violent crime and keep communities safe. The Project Safe Neighborhood Initiative aims to foster trust and legitimacy in communities, support community-based organizations, set strategic enforcement priorities, and measure results.
