Tonya Lynn Romero Pleads Guilty to Methamphetamine Possession, Orlando FL, 2025
A 37-year-old Lake County woman has pleaded guilty to a multi-kilogram methamphetamine offense in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division.
Tonya Lynn Romero, 37, of Okahumpka, faces a minimum penalty of 5 years, up to 40 years, in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
Assistant United States Attorney Megan Testerman is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Orlando Police Department.
The investigation led to a narcotics interdiction operation at the Orlando International Airport, where a canine alerted to the presence of drugs in a suitcase checked in Romero’s name.
After Romero took possession of the luggage, law enforcement approached and she provided consent to search the suitcase. Inside, they found over 13 kilograms of methamphetamine.
A sentencing hearing is set for April 10, 2025, before United States District Judge Anne C. Conway. This case is a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle against the methamphetamine trade, which continues to plague our communities with devastating consequences.
As a society, we must remain vigilant in our pursuit of justice and hold accountable those who would seek to profit from the sale of these deadly substances.
