A shocking case of bank theft has come to light in Pennsylvania, with a bank teller accused of stealing a whopping $20,950 from customers’ accounts.
Tonya Wade, 40, a resident of Ebensburg, Pa., has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Johnstown on a charge of misapplication of funds by a bank employee, U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The indictment alleges that Wade removed the funds from customers’ accounts at C & G Savings Bank in Gallitzin, Pa., between September 17, 2012, and August 29, 2013, and converted them to her personal use.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 30 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie L. Haines is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Laurel Highlands Resident Agency, conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment or information is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
