MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Torrence Ricardo Finley, 33, of St. Paul is facing federal charges after being busted with a loaded 9mm handgun last October, authorities announced Tuesday. The arrest, a joint effort between multiple law enforcement agencies, throws another convicted criminal back into the system.
According to court documents, Finley was found in possession of a Taurus G3X, 9mm semi-automatic handgun on October 4, 2022. What makes this more than a simple gun charge? Finley isn’t just any citizen; he’s a convicted felon. A review of his record shows multiple domestic assault convictions across Chisago, Dakota, and Ramsey Counties – a pattern of violence that should have kept him far away from firearms.
Federal law clearly prohibits anyone with prior felony convictions from possessing guns or ammunition. Finley, apparently unaware or uncaring about this law, now faces a single count of possession of a firearm as an armed career criminal. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota, led by Andrew M. Luger, is prosecuting the case.
Finley was arraigned yesterday before Magistrate Judge Tony N. Leung. Don’t expect a quick release; the judge ordered Finley to remain in detention while the case moves forward. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) spearheaded the investigation, receiving crucial support from the Minneapolis Police Department and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department. These agencies are working to keep the streets safe, one illegal gun at a time.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily A. Polachek is tasked with securing a conviction. While an indictment has been filed, it’s critical to remember that Finley is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The wheels of justice are turning, but the burden of proof rests with the prosecution.
This case serves as a stark reminder that repeat offenders continue to pose a threat to public safety. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the outcome. Expect more details as the legal proceedings unfold, and we’ll be there to document every twist and turn in this case.”
