Jordan Alexander, Illegal Gun Possession, Washington DC, 2024

WASHINGTON D.C. – Jordan Tyler Alexander, 20, of Washington, D.C., has pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, a charge stemming from a chaotic high-speed chase and crash last August. The incident began when a Prince George’s County officer spotted a suspicious vehicle leaving a convenience store and quickly escalated into a dangerous pursuit reaching 100 mph.

According to court documents, the chase began around 2:00 a.m. on August 9, 2023, when the officer observed a white Honda Accord leaving a Suitland convenience store at a high rate of speed. A license plate check revealed the vehicle had been stolen during an armed robbery in Southeast Washington, D.C. on July 24, 2023. The driver, later identified as Alexander, blew through a red light, prompting the officer to engage in a pursuit that crossed into Washington, D.C.

The situation spiraled into a desperate attempt to evade capture. Alexander crashed the stolen Honda into a guardrail on I-295 Northbound near Minnesota Avenue, NE. He then bolted on foot, running alongside traffic. In a brazen move, Alexander even attempted to jump into a vehicle occupied by an off-duty law enforcement agent still in uniform. Thankfully, the agent and assisting officer were able to subdue and arrest Alexander after a short foot chase.

Inside the wrecked Honda, investigators found a cache of firearms in plain view. A loaded Glock 27, 40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine containing 17 rounds and one in the chamber, was discovered on the driver’s side floorboard. A second Glock, a 47 caliber handgun, lay on the front passenger seat. The discovery of these weapons, coupled with Alexander’s prior criminal record, led to the federal charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for more than one year.

Alexander has been detained since August 10, 2023, and now awaits sentencing. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia will determine the appropriate punishment based on sentencing guidelines and statutory factors. Adding to his legal woes, Alexander also faces separate charges in Prince George’s County, Maryland, related to armed robbery and weapons offenses.

The investigation was a collaborative effort by the Prince George’s County Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)’s Washington Field Division, and the Metropolitan Police Department, as part of the Project Safe Neighborhood initiative. The case underscores the ongoing efforts to remove illegal firearms from the streets and hold accountable those who pose a danger to the community.
