Torrey Jaymes McAlpin, Child Pornography, Missouri 2022

ST. LOUIS – A sex offender from Rolla, Missouri, has been sentenced to 190 months in prison for possession of child pornography. Torrey Jaymes McAlpin, 37, was found guilty of sharing explicit content with other users on the social media app Kik in June 2021.

McAlpin’s crime was uncovered after Kik submitted a CyberTip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about the sharing of child sexual abuse material. The messages were traced to McAlpin, who was already a registered sex offender due to previous convictions in Kentucky and Tennessee.

McAlpin was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse involving a child in Kentucky in 2013 and was found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender in Tennessee in 2018. The evidence against him included multiple images and videos containing child sexual abuse material sent to other Kik users.

On July , U.S. District Judge Henry E. Autrey accepted McAlpin’s guilty plea to one count of possession of child pornography and one count of failure to register as a sex offender. The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department and Homeland Security Investigations were involved in the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan Chapman prosecuting the case.

McAlpin will serve 190 months in prison and will be on supervised release for the remainder of his life after his release. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The mission of Project Safe Childhood is to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet. The initiative also aims to identify and rescue victims. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.justice.gov/psc.
