Methamphetamine and Firearms Crimes Land Tahlequah Resident in Prison
Trae Allen Cordell, a 31-year-old Tahlequah resident, has been sentenced to 262 months in prison for federal drug and firearms crimes in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The concurrent sentences were ordered for one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and 60 months for one count of Felon in Possession of Firearm.
The investigation into Cordell’s crimes was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. On April 3, 2024, law enforcement officers serving a search warrant on Cordell’s residence seized two large bags containing smaller baggies amounting to 1,257 grams of methamphetamine, as well as two loaded semi-automatic pistols.
At the time of the arrest, Cordell had been previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year imprisonment. This felony status was a crucial factor in the charges against him.
Cordell pleaded guilty to the charges on November 6, 2024. The Honorable John F. Heil, III, U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing. Cordell will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.
