Tre Robert Allen Ackerson, 29, of Webb City, Missouri, pleaded guilty to second degree murder for the killing of Osage citizen Jolene Walker Campbell in federal court, announced U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson.
Ackerson faces up to life in federal prison with no possibility of parole. He is being held in the custody of the Marshal Service pending formal sentencing at a future date.
According to court documents, Ackerson and codefendant Breanna Sloan conspired to kidnap and brutally murder the victim, and then conspired with additional codefendants to threaten witnesses and destroy evidence to cover up their crimes.
“Jolene Campbell was only 35 when she was brutally murdered, a young woman with a long life ahead of her,” said FBI Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge Edward J. Gray. “She left behind a grieving family that deserves justice, and after three long years and 9 convictions, we hope they can finally begin to heal from this tragic loss.”
The investigation into Campbell’s murder began in 2020, after her body was discovered in a rural field in Mayes County, Oklahoma. A year later, 11 defendants from the Joplin, Missouri, area were charged for their various roles related to the kidnapping that led to the death of the victim and for conspiring to obstruct the ensuing federal investigation.
Ackerson admitted to intentionally shooting the victim multiple times, cutting her throat, and hitting her head several times with a tire jack until she died from the injuries.
The case against Ackerson and his codefendants is a result of three years of work and commitment from law enforcement partners and federal prosecutors to provide justice for the victim and her family.
