MIAMI – A trio of Treasure Coast bandits have been brought to justice for their brazen scheme of robbing U.S. Postal Service (USPS) letter carriers and demanding their keys.
On June 12, Jamal Travon Brown Weathers, 23, from Fort Pierce, pled guilty to conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, armed Postal/U.S. property robbery, and brandishing a firearm during and in furtherance of a crime of violence.
Jalen Dennis Elliott, 19, of Port St. Lucie, followed suit on June 14, admitting to conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery and Hobbs Act robbery charges.
Bernard Jerome Davis III, 20, also from Port St. Lucie, pled guilty on June 18 to multiple counts including armed Postal/U.S. property robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
Between November 19, 2022, and October 21, 2023, the trio robbed at least six USPS letter carriers across St. Lucie, Brevard, Orange, and Miami-Dade counties. The court record details their exploits, including Brown Weathers’ demand for keys at gunpoint in Port St. Lucie and a coordinated effort with Davis to flee the scene after Brown Weathers brandished a firearm.
On May 12, 2023, Brown Weathers and Davis robbed two USPS letter carriers in Melbourne and Orlando. The duo’s modus operandi included using rented vehicles and brandishing firearms to steal Postal arrow keys, which are accountable property assigned only to USPS employees for official use.
Their spree concluded on October 21 with another confrontation in Miami Beach, where Davis shouted his demands before making a getaway. Now facing federal charges, the bandits will answer for their heinous acts of violence and theft against hardworking postal carriers.
